Winter sports events in Ruhpolding
To kick off the year, the famous Biathlon World Cup takes place in Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau Arena in January. Secure your biathlon tickets in good time (advance ticket sales start in August) and be there live when the star athletes compete for victory. For the cross-country skiers among you, a special one-day event is held in January: The Chiemgau Team Trophy offers a cross-country skiing route from Inzell via Ruhpolding to Reit im Winkl, bringing groups, companies, clubs and friends together to enjoy the shared experience of nature free from the hustle and bustle.
In spring and fall: Easter village and Georgi ride
During the spring-like Easter period, Ruhpolding is transformed into a pretty Easter village. A colorful Easter program offers events for the whole family and the local Easter bunny distributes Easter eggs to the little visitors. All visitors to the village are welcome to attend the Christian Easter service. On the 1st Sunday in September, you can experience the traditional Georgiritt horse ride in the center of Ruhpolding, whose religious background dates back to the 16th century. Around 180 horses and their owners as well as 10 decorated floats parade through the village to St. Valentin to receive the divine blessing of the horses. After the impressive horse parade, you can stroll through the local stores from around 11:00 a.m. during Sunday shopping.
Celebrations in Upper Bavaria: Ruhpolding's festive events
The "Festival of the Mountains" is the best way to get to know our Upper Bavarian specialties in Ruhpolding: In May, a multi-day program of events is prepared for all mountain sports enthusiasts as well as culture and culinary fans. Take part in guided mountain tours or join in the celebrations at the traditional forest festival in the idyllic outdoor area of the Holzknecht Museum. Look forward to Bavarian customs, great hiking and cycling programs, culinary delicacies and delicious beer. In August, we invite you to our hearty village festival in the Ruhpolding ice rink, where locals and guests celebrate to live Bavarian music with one, two, three... or even four pints of beer. The village festival fun then continues at the cocktail bar or the wine arbor.
Reflections at the end of the year: mountain Christmas, forest Christmas and Rauhnachtsmarkt
A small mountain Christmas market is held at the Rauschberg mountain station at an altitude of 1,670 m. Local handicrafts are on offer on two Advent weekends at the so-called Ruhpoldinger Bergweihnacht. Enjoy a warming mulled wine and the snow-covered mountain panorama all around. The contemplative nativity play "Ruhpoldinger Waldweihnacht" is performed every 3 years in December by around 100 local actors on the grounds of the Holzknechtmuseum (tickets on sale from August of the year of the event). If you spend your vacations with us between Christmas and New Year, we recommend you visit the annual Rauhnachtsmarkt in Ruhpolding's Kurpark. Stroll between the craft and farmer's stalls during the "magical time of the Rauhnächte" and enjoy delicious Bosna sausages or lard baked goods.
